Basketball players Jessica Clemenon from the University of Windsor and Tyson Hinz from Carleton University are the Canadian Interuniversity Sport female and male athletes of the year.
Clemenon and Hinz received the BLG Award in a ceremony Monday night at The Centre in Vancouver For Performing Arts. Clemenon, a native of Saint-Rambert, France, captured the Nan Copp Award as the most outstanding player during the CIS basketball season. She had a OUA-leading 19.0 points per game, leading the Lancers to their first national title. Hinz, who hails from Ottawa, was in his second season with Carleton. He led the Ravens in points per game (17.0) and rebounds per game(6.0) during the regular season as Carleton went undefeated at the end of conference play (22-0). Hinz was named CIS player of the year during the playoffs and received the Jack Donohue Trophy as tournament MVP after the Ravens beat Trinity Western to claim their seventh CIS banner in nine years. It marked the first time in history that two basketball players won the BLG Award in the same year.
