Ottawa to host OFSAA Championships 2012

March Madness comes to Ottawa as the city plays host to the best high school boys basketball teams in Ontario. The three-day tournament features 18 high school teams, 27 games and will crown a provincial champion.

Ottawa has only twice hosted the top tier OFSAA event, in 1981 and 1997. his is the first time the national capital has hosted the AAAA since its inception in 2002. The AAA division includes high schools with the province's largest student populations.

The tournament is expected to showcase some of the top high school players in Canada. This same event has seen many former basketball greats such as Leo Rautins, Jay Triano and Jamaal Magloire perform on the OFSAA stage. Tournament co-convener Richard Sutton is anticipating a fantastic three days.

"We're thrilled to be hosting this elite championship event," Sutton said. "Basketball fans will be in for a real treat with the caliber which will be on display."

The preliminary action tips off on Monday, March 5, at four sites: Mother Teresa, Longfields-Davidson Heights, Ridgement and Hillcrest, and continues on March 6.
