Cory Joseph Is Slipping Dangerously

At the NBA combine this past week Texas guard Cory Joseph did not impress NBA teams with his play against other prospects. He did not shoot well and made poor decisions, reiterating previous concerns about his abilities to run an NBA-style offense. Joseph and several other top prospects from Texas including Jordan Hamilton and Tristan Thompson decided to enter the draft early, and Joseph looks like he could have used another year in school. The farther down in the first round Joseph slips, the fewer teams there will be that have point guard at the top of their list of needs. If Joseph wants to be drafted in the first round, he must show scouts his playmaking abilities in workouts and scrimmages, because his strong defensive abilities will not overcome his inability to be a floor general. Nevertheless Cory Joseph and Texas teammate Thompson , of Pickering, have been practicing under the guidance of former Raptors assistant coach John Lucas for what is expected to be a very busy five weeks of workouts and visits in advance of the draft in Houston. Its still never too late for Cory to impress general managers in the NBA due to the direction of teams needing point generals to run a half court set. Doubters are out on Cory's decision leaving too early, but with a weaker draft class of 2011 its a possibility that a team will give Josephs a look he much deserves.
